At the exhibition, “Lee Jinhee’s Hanbok in Mass Media,” taking
place on the 2nd floor of the Korea Traditional Culture Center in
Jeonju until 23 July, Professor Lee Jinhee of the Department of Stage Design (School
of Drama) displays a collection of Hanbok, the traditional Korean attire, she
had designed for costumes. On the topic of “Attire with Dancing Archetype of
Life,” the exhibition also puts various video and installation artworks on
display along with the Hanbok collection that appeared in drama series and films.
The audience can view the flamboyant series of Hanbok from the drama series,
“Sungkyunkwan Scandal” (2010) and “Love in the Moonlight” (2016) as well as the
films, The Treacherous (2015) and The Great Battle (2018).
Professor Lee’s attires are known for co-illustrating the vivid contemporality
and tenacious artistry on the ground of painting and stage design. The costumes
from “Sungkyunkwan Scandal” (2010) and “Love in the Moonlight” (2016)
creatively re-interpret the essential beauty of Hanbok, successfully satisfying
the aesthetic needs asked for in the contemporary context.
The genuine beauty of the Hanbok represented in the drama series
by Professor Lee indeed caught the significant attention of fans not only from
Korea but Japan, China, and the United States, who indulged in the K-culture. At
the 56th Daejong International Film Award in 2020, Professor Lee
Jinhee earned recognition for her contribution to costume in the film, The
Great Battle (2018).
