School
of Drama Presents the 11th Sharing Youth Creative Theater Festival
The 11th Sharing
Youth Creative Theater Festival, “Youth (Spring)” organized by the
School of Drama and presided over by the K-Arts takes place from 25 to 26
August and 1 to 2 September. This year’s theme was “The World In/Outside of a Cave.” The event aims to share the sentiments and senses of the
contemporary youth at the same time as to promote youth theater.
The “Full Competence,” a theater script contest, was conducted in May, through which three pieces among 96 entries were selected through blind screening. The selections were praised for creatively portraying different blends of emotions the teens experience at their age. The winners are “Koreans Make Anything into Kimchi” by playwright Chae Su-bon (K-Arts), “Igloo” by playwright Choi Kyu-seong (Seoul Institute of the Arts), and “Till It Dries Up” by playwright Shin Yun-ju (winner of the Dong-a Ilbo Spring Literary Contest 2021). They were presented at the public reading directed by Kwak Jeong-eun, Kwon Yeong-ho, and Son Ji-hyeong.
An impromptu
theatrical work, “All Over the Place,” was created by young students cooperating
with grown-up artists at the production workshop. The nine workshop participants
were selected from the applicants aged 14 to 17 years old. The outcome of the
workshop will be unveiled on the final day of the festival, on 2 September.
