Winners of the Spring Literary Contest 2021 from K-Arts
Lee Chul-yong, a bachelor
of playwriting, won in Spring Literary Contest by Hankook Ilbo in Drama with “An Alliance with Devil.” Kim Jin-hee, a
master of playwriting, also won in the contest by Maeil Newspaper in Drama and
Scenario with “A Broad Daylight Specter.”
Lee Chul-yong’s “An Alliance with Devil” follows a nun
who seemingly visited a prisoner to hear his confession, yet it turns out that she
intends to take vengeance on him in an alliance with the devil. The jury complimented
the dramatic plot structure of Lee’s work.
Kim Jin-hee’s “A Broad Daylight
Specter,” a work with an impactful title, deals with the topic of dissolution
of a family in Korean society. Kim titled her work, borrowing a sentence from a
French poet Charles Baudelaire’s “The
Seven Old Men” that sings, “City swarming with people, how full you are of
dreams!/ Here in broad daylight, surely, the passerby may meet/ A specter - be
accosted by him!”
