Inauguration of Pyeon Jangwan, K-Arts’s 10th President

On Tuesday, November 4, 2025, K-Arts held the inauguration of its 10th president, Pyeon Jang-wan, at the Arts Theater Building on the Seokgwan Campus. Attendees included representatives from the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, the former president, faculty, and students, all celebrating K-Arts’s new chapter.

The event opened with a celebratory concert by the School of Dance, followed by an introduction to President Pyeon’s academic journey and teaching philosophy. Congratulatory speeches came from his former students, including filmmaker Kim Sung-su, known for 12. 12: The Day (2023).

In his inaugural address, President Pyeon declared, “I wish today to mark another beginning for K-Arts’s next thirty years.” He added, “The essence of arts education lies in building the courage to question, rather than teaching correct answers.” He emphasized, “Even as technology evolves, the human being remains at the center of the arts, and the school should awaken wisdom, not merely accumulate knowledge.”

“K-Arts is a commonwealth consisting of six schools, each expressing the world in its own distinct language,” he continued. “This variety and harmony form K-Arts’s true power and beauty. We should not fear difference but learn from it and make it our own asset. Together, they will blossom as a flower of the arts.”

Toward the speech’s close, President Pyeon stated, “Art is not a tool for changing the world, but it teaches us to see it from a different perspective. K-Arts will strive to become an arts institution that guides students to understand humanity through art, expand art through education, and engage the world through art.” He outlined his vision: “By continuing to communicate with the world through arts and arts education, K-Arts will grow as the hub for the next generation of artists.”
