9 School of Dance Students Triumph Over the 2023 Valentina Kozlova International Ballet Competition


 

The current students of the School of Dance enjoyed the glory of taking the prizes in the contemporary and classical senior divisions at the 2023 Valentina Kozlova International Ballet Competition. In the contemporary senior division for the girls, Baek Seohyun (4th year, BA) won the Gold, Min Jung Won (2nd year, BA) the Silver, Kim Da Kyung (4th year, BA) the Bronze, and Jung Ji-eun (4th year, BA) the Bronze. In the same division for the boys, Kim Mingyu (2nd year, BA) earned the Silver.

 

In the classical senior division for the girls, Kim Joheun (2nd year, BA) seized the Gold, and Seo Jisu (2nd year, BA) acquired the Silver. In the same division for the boys, Jung Sungwook (graduand, BA) took the Silver, and Jung Eunjun (3rd year, BA) the Bronze, respectively.

 

Originated from the Boston International Ballet Competition in 2011, starting from 2013, the competition was re-named after the Russian American ballerina Valentina Kozlova, who reached a position of prominence in the major ballet companies, including the Bolshoi Ballet, and continued with the current name until today. This year, over 100 dancers from 13 countries – the United States, Brazil, Canada, Ukraine, Latvia, Australia, Japan, Ireland, Paraguay, Belgium, South Korea, etc. – engaged in to compete for winner’s positions and supplementary prizes such as opportunities for trainee program, tuition and housing scholarship, dance company contract, and financial support for international ballet competitions.
