Professor Kim Kihyun’s Team of the School of Visual Arts Wins the 2023 Green GOOD DESIGN Sustainability Awards

The H Wave Bench, a sculpture designed by the project team led by Professor Kim Kihyun of the School of Visual Arts and manufactured by the Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd. had the glory of garnering the Green Product/Graphic Design Award in the 2023 Green GOOD DESIGN Sustainability Awards. This program is a special division under the aegis of the GOOD DESIGN Awards, one of the most prestigious design awards in the world. The Green GOOD DESIGN Awards selects the winner focusing on eco-friendly and sustainable aspects of the product’s design.

The H Wave Bench is a sculpted sitting wall manufactured from recycled plastic materials collected from the residue of the R&D process of the Hyundai automobiles. The work was shaped using the mold made with the 3D printer. The product was acclaimed for perfectly realizing the detailed linearity with the recycled plastic materials (using the amount equivalent to about 5,400 of 500ml plastic bottles) by adopting unconventional technologies in architecture.
