Prof. Kim Hyunmi of the School of Music Releases a New Album, “Reflection”

Violinist and Professor Kim Hyunmi of the School of Music released the second album of her project for the complete list of Beethoven Sonatas (a total of 10). This album, “Reflection,” includes Sonata No. 7, a deeply emotional piece, and Sonata No. 10, the final piece. Kim also recorded Sergei Prokofiev’s ballet, “Cinderella,” arranged by violin and piano. Pianist Oh Yoon-ju, dean of the College of Music at Sungshin Women’s University, took the piano part.

Kim Hyunmi’s Beethoven project launched in 2020. Kim has completed recording 10 sonatas so far. She released the first album with Sonatas No. 5, 6, and 8 in March 2024. Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s “Much Ado About Nothing, Op. 11” was also included in Kim’s first album. The remaining 5 Beethoven Sonatas will be all out approximately with a half-a-year gap. On top of Beethoven, Kim plans on introducing some other composers’ short pieces in her albums.

Kim said, “Beethoven is the composer who captivated my mind throughout the time I studied music since my youth. I’ve trained hard, and I believe I am finally prepared to deliver his music and its meaning to the world through my playing.” Also, “That’s part of the reason I am dealing with my Beethoven project at the midpoint in my life,” added she.
