AT
Lab’s Production Officially Invited to the 24th Kaohsiung Film
Festival
Song Young-yun’s “Fly To You” (2024), a production by the Art &
Technology Lab (AT Lab), was officially invited to the 2024 XR Spark
International Competition of the 24th Kaohsiung Film Festival.
“Fly To You” (2024) was produced by AT Lab and directed by Song Young-yun,
who took an MA in Multimedia from the School of Film, TV &
Multimedia. The work follows the poignant journey of an old lady, “Kang Song-jeol,”
who had a painful experience of family separation during the Korean War. Using
volumetric capture and “Nerf” technology, “Fly To You” was nominated for
Narrative Immersive at the 2024 Raindance Immersive, invited to the 2024
Ars Electronica, and now also invited to the 2024 Kaohsiung Film Festival.
Song introduced the film as a work set in a specific time in Korean
history while at the same time talking about universal topics of “family” and “loss.”
Song said, “It seems to be the power of high technology to induce audiences
from different backgrounds into the story and let them engage with what is
presented.”
Begun in 2001, the Kaohsiung Film Festival is one of Asia’s representative
film festivals, which celebrates its 24th anniversary this year.
Since the establishment of Kaohsiung VR Film Lab in 2017, the event has
run various programs in cutting-edge content fields.
