School of Drama Celebrates Its 30th Anniversary

To retrospect on the past 30 years of the academic path and to promise the next 30 years of the School of Drama, K-Arts has prepared commemorative events and performances (theatrical works) for the latter half of 2024 following the first half.

From 6 to 8 November at the Gallery on the Seokgwan campus, The School of Drama’s 30 Years of Heritage, a special exhibition for the 30th anniversary of the School of Drama, takes place. It will display recordings of memories in photos, video clips, props, costumes, and more, which reflect the performances held on campus over the past 30 years. They all together will be the “HERITAGE” of the School of Drama passed on through time.

The Housemaids Riding Rhinoceros While Waiting for Godot, a graduation exhibition of the Department of Stage Design, showcases works created by students after exerting 4 years of effort with artistic sensibilities, skills, and collaboration. It will be held at the Lee O Young Art Theater on the Seokgwan campus from 15 to 16 November and 18 to 20 November.

Dear Ms. Elena is based on the original theatrical work, “Dear Elena Sergeevna,” by Ljudmila Razmovskaya. Alumnus Lee Jaejun of the School of Drama directed the work. It will be presented from Thursday, 28 to Saturday, 30 November at the Experimental Stage on the Seokgwan campus.

Life Universe and Everything was inspired by the original work, “Our Town,” by Thornton Wilder. Alumna Kim Miran of the School of Drama directed the work. It will be presented from 5 to 7 December at the Lee O Young Art Theater on the Seokgwan campus.

IATSC (International Asia Theatre Studies Conference) takes place on the Seokgwan campus on “Trans in Theatre” from 2 to 3 November. The researchers from four theatre universities from East Asia (School of Drama of K-Arts, Shanghai Theatre Academy, Osaka University, National Taiwan University of Arts) will join.

For the past 30 years based on the essential understanding of humans and arts, the School of Drama aimed to foster creative artists with humanistic perspectives through specialized education programs centered around practical training. The School of Drama’s vision will be sustained with greater endeavor. By more engagingly connecting and creatively collaborating with the community in step with today’s dynamically changing society, the School of Drama will nurture theatrical talents who will be pioneers of our time.
