Dancer
Jeon Minchul Performs on the Stage of “Soirée
de Franz Liszt”
Ballet
dancer Jeon Minchul, an enrolled student in the Department of Dance
Performance, will perform at “Soirée de Franz Liszt” at Mapo Art Center on
February 14.
The
performance will bring its audience ballet with commentary along with composer Liszt’s
music. In this event, Prof. Kim Yong Geol, a first generation ballerino and now
a choreographer, and Jeon Minchul, a prospective member of Mariinsky Ballet,
will join to create the stage.
As
it is Jeon’s first time showcasing a piece he himself choreographed, his appearance
on stage is escalating the audience’s expectations even more. Prof. Kim Yong
Geol will perform his choreographed “Mazeppa” of “Transcendental Etudes No. 4,”
while Jeon will present his version of “Liebestraum No.3.”
Additionally,
pianist Shin Jaemin as a soloist, Kim Yong Geol Dance Theater, and the K-arts
Ballet crew will also join the stage.
This
event aims to explore Franz Liszt’s music through creative ballet. As an influential
and ingenious composer and pianist from Hungary, Liszt was one of the most
important musicians of the Romantic period. Escaping from the conventional music
styles, Liszt structured his music in an unprecedented way, adding technical embellishments.
The new horizon in music he has opened continues to be loved by many today.
CEO Song Je-yong of Mapo Foundation for Arts and Culture commented, “I hope the audience experiences the essence of creative ballet through the dancers’ passionate performances.”
