Choo Young-woo,
School of Drama, Takes First in Actor Brand Reputation
Actor Choo
Young-woo, an alumnus of the School of Drama, placed first in actor brand
reputation according to an analysis by the Brand Reputation Index Ranking (BRI
Korea) based on the big data collected in February 2025.
Choo Young-woo has
become an up-and-coming star after starring in JTBC’s latest drama series, “The
Tale of Lady Ok,” which was a success. Choo also played another popular
character, Dr. Yang Jaewon, the first disciple of genius surgeon Baek
Kang-hyuk, portrayed by actor Ju Jihoon, in Netflix’s hit, “The Trauma Code:
Heroes On Call.”
Meanwhile, Choo sang
a cover of singer-songwriter Roy Kim’s “When Spring Comes” to keep a promise
that he would do so if his Netflix drama topped the global chart. The clip surpassed
240 million viewers less than a week after being posted on Netflix’s Instagram
account, demonstrating his soaring popularity. Choo had previously demonstrated
his vocal talent by singing “Let’s Not Break Up Again,” a soundtrack from “The
Tale of Lady Ok,” and “Oasis” in KBS2’s drama series, “Oasis” (2023).
“The Tale of Lady
Ok” follows the survival scam of Ok Tae-young (starred by Lim Jiyeon), a legal
advisor whose name, identity, and husband were all fake, and Cheon Seung-hwi (starred
by Choo Young-woo), who risked his life to protect her. As Choo played both Sung
Yoon-gyum and Cheon Seung-hwi, it marked his first dual role in his acting
career.
Choo said, “The
place I went when the works I appeared in were airing was the gym. To my surprise,
many people I met there recognized and greeted me. I found out that most young
people were fans of ‘The
Trauma Code: Heroes On Call’
while the elders loved ‘The
Tale of Lady Ok’ more. I’m so impressed by all this that I can hardly believe what’s
going on around me is all real.” He added, “I want to become an actor who can play
any character with no limits. I expect to meet more new characters as I grow as
an actor,” revealing his aspiration.
