Han Jaeyun, KNIGA, Placed 2nd in Tertis and Aronowitz Competition
Violist
Han Jaeyun, a former student of the Korea National Institute for the Gifted in
Arts (KNIGA), placed second at the Tertis and Aroowitz International Viola
Competition. In addition, she was awarded Best Performance of Competition
Commission by Kathleen Tagg.
The
competition was established to commemorate the British violists Lionel Tertis
and Cecil Aronowitz. Initially, the event began as the Tertis Competition in
1980. From 2014 onward, it has expanded to include the Aronowitz Competition, becoming
the Tertis & Aronowitz Competition. The Tertis competition is open to participants
aged 19 to 30, while the Aronowitz is for those under 18.
Han
Jaeyun is the younger sister of cellist Han Jaemin who won the Enescu
Competition and became the youngest-ever winner of Isang Yun Competition. Han
Jaeyun herself won the 2020 Sunjung Competition. In 2021, she took the first in
the Ewha & Kyunghyang Concours. She studies under Prof. Oh Soonhwa and
Prof. Lee Hanna. Admitted to the bachelor's degree program at the School of
Music, she will begin her studies in the Department of Instrumental Music
starting this year.
