Novus
Quartet, School of Music, Releases “Brahms: The Complete String Quartets”
Novus Quartet, a string quartet composed of alumni of the School of Music,
has released “Brahms: The Complete String Quartets.” Formed in 2007, Novus
Quartet recorded a complete set of three pieces of Brahm’s string quartets and
released the album, with which they are planning a nationwide concert tour.
All members of Novus Quartet are K-Arts graduates, violinists Kim
Jae-young and Kim Young-wook, violist Kim Kyu-hyun, and cellist Lee Won-hae. The
team is globally acclaimed, having won first place at the Mozart International
Competition in 2014. From 2022 to 2023, they served as resident artists at
London’s Wigmore Hall. Also, they delighted chamber music fans in Korea with performances
of the complete string quartets of Mendelssohn, Shostakovich, and Beethoven.
Novus Quartet worked with the French label Aparte for their latest release,
which is their sixth international album. “It wasn’t an easy process, both physically
and mentally. The outcome, however, is enlivened with the details,” team leader
Kim Jae-young said with satisfaction. “After repeatedly playing and recording
the music of a single composer so many times, we almost feel like we’re coming
back home after having lived in that music.”
To mark the release of their album, Novus Quartet is hosting concerts at Bucheon
Art Center on March 1, Lotte Concert Hall on March 8, and Gwangju Arts Center
on March 27.
