Theatre-maker
Koo Jaha Takes “Haribo Kimchi” to Spain
Theatre-maker Koo Jaha, an alumnus of the School of
Drama, presents a play, “Haribo Kimchi,” four times in Valladolid and Madrid,
Spain from March 5 to 9.
“Haribo Kimchi” is a new project following Koo’s Hamartia
Trilogy, which includes “Lolling and Rolling,” “Cuckoo,” and “The History
of Korean Western Theatre.” It explores the absurdity of society through encounters
with lost souls at a pojangmacha (a typical Korean late-night outdoor snack bar).
The event was co-prepared by Calderón Theater,
Valladolid, and Conde Duque Theater, Madrid.
Koo Jaha studied in the Department of Theatre Studies
at K-Arts. Afterward, Koo acquired an MA in Independent Theatre at DAS Theater
in Amsterdam. He is continuing his artistic career based in the Netherlands and
Belgium.
Koo achieved the YAA Prize for Performing Arts 2017 in
theater and music categories.
Director Shin Jaekwang of the Korean Cultural Center
in Spain remarked, “The event contributed to introducing Korea’s contemporary
theatre to the local people in Spain. We will continue to make opportunities for
more Korean artworks to meet the people in Spain.”
