Jiwoo, a KNIGA Student, Placed Second at the Johansen International Competition

Violinist Son
Jiwoo, who is majoring in violin at the School of Music, placed second at the
2025 Johansen International Competition held from March 17 to 20 in Washington,
D.C.
Son Jiwoo achieved
this splendid feat after fiercely competing against three other finalists. Son has
previously won numerous accolades, including first prizes at the Ewha-Kyunghyang
Concours, Dong-A Junior Music Competition, Sung Jung Music Competition, and Ysaye
International Music Competition Junior Violin in Belgium. She also secured
second prize at the International Grumiaux Competition for Young Violinists in Belgium.
She was admitted to the undergraduate program at K-Arts in 2025 as a prodigy while
enrolled at the Korea National Institute for the Gifted in Arts, affiliated
with K-Arts. Son currently studies under Prof. Lee Sung-joo.
Johansen
International Competition restricts its candidates to those aged 13 to 17. It
is a triennial event held in Washington, D.C. Since 1997, it has discovered
many talents worldwide, including Korean violinists Kim Dami and Shin Ji-a.
