K-ARTS
and ROK Army Sign MOU for Mutual Cooperation
At 3 p.m. on
Thursday, May 8, in the main campus meeting room, K-Arts and ROK Army
Headquarters under Officer Park Seonghoon of Troop Information & Education
(TI&E) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to reinforce the Korean
army’s prowess in art and culture and encourage cultural policy advancement.
Both institutions agreed
to operate an educational program to strengthen soldiers’ artistic and cultural
capabilities and to cooperate on the co-development of cultural policies.
The main content
of the MOU includes: establishing an educational curriculum to nurture soldiers’
artistic and cultural abilities and providing necessary facility support;
encouraging academic programs – such as lectures, field trips, mentorship – for
cultural policy development; supporting K-Arts faculty or students’ field trips
or extracurricular activities to raise security awareness; and other relevant
cooperative matters as agreed upon by both parties.
From this point
onward, K-Arts is anticipated to academically cultivate and support ROK
soldiers’ prowess in arts and culture. The ROK Army also aims to increase young
artists’ understanding of and familiarity with the Korean army.
Kim Daejin,
President of K-Arts, stated, “This MOU will be a starting point of a journey to
create a new value from the encounter between arts and various fields. Beyond
administrative cooperation, this will be a meaningful step toward shaping the
future with the army and arts working hand in hand.”
Officer Park Seonghoon added, “From now on, we expect to make much progress in the army’s arts and culture, whether in planning army performances and exhibitions or running military bands. We also hope this will help the next generation of young artists better understand the Korean army and find us more familiar.”
Both parties will further detail the agreement
through ongoing discussions to realize their goals.
