Vocalist
Han Eunbin, School of Music, Took Home Two Awards From the 11th DIMF
Musical Star
Han Eunbin, an
alumnus of the Department of Vocal Music, School of Music, basked in the glory
of winning both the Grand Prize and People’s Choice Award at the 11th
Daegu International Music Festival (DIMF) Musical Star competition.
The DIMF concluded
with a grand finale after the final round of the competition at the Daegu Opera
House on June 7th. The fourteen finalist teams from across the globe
staged performances, each offering their own interpretation.
Musical actors and
actresses Nam Kyung-joo, Sung Gi-yun, Kim So-hyang, and Kim Bo-kyung, along
with musical professionals Bae Seong-hyeok, Yoo Hee-sung, and Hong Bon-young,
joined the jury committee, making the atmosphere even more heated.
Singing “Michael
in the Bathroom” from the musical Be More Chill, Han Eunbin, the
Grand Prize winner, drew rave reviews from both the jury and the audience by
expressing the character’s psychological isolation and inner explosion with emotionally
intense depth. Although Han, originally an opera major, was not as accustomed to
musical acting, he delivered steady performances throughout the competition and
earned high praise.
Han said, “This
accomplishment means a lot to me, because I experienced the pain of losing in
the final three years ago. I’m delighted that I can now move forward with
confidence in my path as a musical actor.”
Executive Director
Bae Seong-hyeok commented, “Every participant we meet at the competition each year
is as astonishingly talented that we could consider them all winners. We will provide
full support to help them spread their wings as musical performers.”
