School
of Drama’s Play, “The Nape,” To Be Presented at the 2nd Korean
College Theater Festival & Guro Arts Valley
The
School of Drama’s production, “The Nape,” will join the 2nd Korean
College Theater Festival, which begins on July 8. The event, hosted by Yongin Special
City and organized by the Yongin Cultural Foundation, aims to encourage the
passion and experimental spirit of college students studying theatre. Twelve college
teams from across the country are participating this year.
In
addition, “The Nape” will be staged at Guro Arts Valley from July 18 to 19. The
Guro Cultural Foundation, in collaboration with the School of Drama at K-Arts, has
run the Theatre Production Platform since 2020, providing young artists with local
performance opportunities every year. In 2023, the two parties entered an
official partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding. Since then, they have
continued their collaboration to distribute, cultivate, and nurture quality cultural content.
“The Nape” is an adaptation of Euripides’
three tragedies – Iphigenia at Aulis, Agamemnon, and Electra
– reinterpreted from a female perspective. The production was re-created into
the contemporary context, adopting the traditional Korean mask dance (talchum)
and puppet theatre. The work earned recognition, obtaining an accolade in directing
at the 35th Encounter in Brno, Czechoslovakia, in April.
Jeong Yeonbo, Director of the Guro Cultural
Foundation, stated, “It’s very meaningful to present K-Arts’s outstanding
performance like ‘The Nape,’ which just won an award at the Encounter in April,
to the local community.”
