K-Arts
YouTube Content to Be Broadcast in 135 Countries via Arirang TV
K-Arts announced plans
to provide Arirang TV with video content originally produced for the K-Arts TV YouTube
channel, to be broadcast over a two-year period beginning in September 2025.
This marks the
first collaborative project between K-Arts and the Korea International
Broadcasting Foundation (KIBF), since the signing of their Memorandum of
Understanding in 2021. The project began at the suggestion of Arirang TV. Starting
on September 22 this year, a total of 31 videos will be live-streamed with
English subtitles through multiple channels, including Arirang Korea, Arirang
World, Arirang UN, and the Arirang TV YouTube channel.
Arirang TV, South
Korea’s leading English-language network, reaches approximately 155 million
households across 135 countries. Broadcasting K-Arts-produced content on this
platform represents a rare case of global outreach by a domestic arts
institution.
The content lineup
features 27 K-Arts artist interviews, along with four videos from the K-Arts
Factory series, encompassing performing arts, documentary, and short films.
The interview series
features 26 contemporary artists including choreographer Kim Seol-jin, Choi
Young-gyu, principal ballet dancer of the Dutch National Ballet, documentary
filmmaker Nam Arum, writer Sanghee, animator Hahm Heeyoon, and many others.
The K-Arts Factory
selections include “White Ray” by Sa-Har, a creative group from School of
Korean Traditional Arts and grand prize winner of the 13th Korea
University Gugak Festival, “00:00 (Midnight),” a multinational interdisciplinary
performance, “Jaya, Where the Wind Comes From,” a documentary on collaboration
between gugak group Jaya and American musicians, and 1520 (2017) by filmmaker
Song Moonkyung, which was previously screened at the Jeonju International Film
Festival.
The selected videos
were drawn from works produced at K-Arts over the past three years at K-Arts,
chosen for their cultural significance and public value under the supervision
of the Advertising and Planning Team in the External Affairs Division Office of
K-Arts. Arirang TV is responsible for producing the English-subtitled versions to
reach international audiences.
A representative
from K-Arts commented, “We anticipate that the creative activities of our
students and alumni will cross borders and resonate with global audiences and arts
communities through this opportunity. We will also continue to pursue various forms
of collaboration to showcase the excellence of our arts education and the
vibrancy of contemporary artists to the world.”
