Actor Shin Joo-hyup Cast in Lead Role of My Favorite Love Story
Actor Shin Joo-hyup, an alumnus of the School of Drama, has been cast in
the leading role of the musical film, My Favorite Love Story.
The film is based on the acclaimed Korean original stage musical of the
same name, which tells the love story of Oliver and Claire – two helper robots living
in near-future Seoul. The musical garnered international attention earlier this
year by sweeping six categories at the Tony Awards.
Shin Joo-hyup and Kang Hye-in, who originally played Oliver and Claire in
the 2018 production, reunite to reprise their roles in the film adaptation.
Actor Yu Jun-sang joins the cast as James, Oliver’s former owner. The film is
directed by Lee Wonhoe.
Unlike a typical romantic musical, Maybe Happy Ending explores the
timeless question of what it means to be human, following the emotional journey
of two robots who discover love for the first time.
Since his debut in the 2017 musical “Cinderella Homme,” Shin has built a
versatile career across stage and screen. His theater credits include “Nijinsky”
(2025) and “Dekabri” (2025), while his television work includes roles in “Castaway
Diva” (2023), “The Midnight Romance in Hagwon” (2024), and “Oh My Ghost Clients”
(2025). On film, he appeared in The Priests 2: Dark Nuns (2025). “From
the very beginning, I’ve always wanted to act without boundaries.” Shin reflected,
expressing gratitude for the chance to fulfill that dream. With this film, he
steps into the role of Oliver (HelperBot-5) for the second time, and his
performance is highly anticipated to bring even greater nuance and realism to
the character.
My Favorite Love Story will be released on October 2.
