Kim
Yunseo, Student at the School of Visual Arts, Wins the 2025 Canon Korea Mirae
Award
Kim Yunseo, a
current student in the Department of Fine Arts at the School of Visual Arts, has
been named a winner of the 2025 Mirae Award, co-hosted by Canon Korea and the Parkgeonhi
Foundation.
The Mirae Award, now in its 19th year, is dedicated to discovering and nurturing the next generation of photographers and visual artists shaping South Korea’s future in photography and video art. Organized jointly by Canon Korea and the Parkgeonhi Foundation, the award has honored 75 artists to date, many of whom have gone on to active and influential careers in the arts.
For the 2025 competition, a total of 191 entries were submitted. From these, four winners were selected by a jury consisting of Canon Masters Jang Minseung and Park Hyeongryeol, and Kim Jeongeun, Director of The Reference Seoul. The jurors evaluated each work based on originality, conceptual depth, and the potential for growth in the artists’ thematic expression.
Kim’s award-winning video work, A Dream within a Dream (2025), explores the notion of inexperienced nostalgia. It delves into human desire embedded in historical images from the colonial era, now perceived as a form of collective déjà vu.
Each of the four
awardees receives Canon’s newly released EOS R6 Mark III 24-105 USM KIT, a full-frame
mirrorless camera launched in late 2025. Additionally, the winners will
participate in a mentorship program with photographer Oh Heinkuh, a member of the
professional jury committee. Their works will be featured in upcoming exhibitions
and publications organized by Canon Korea and the Parkgeonhi Foundation.
