Mom (2025), a short film created through a workshop organized by the Department of Filmmaking at the School of Film, TV & Multimedia, has won the Best Short – Women Empowerment award at the Paris Women Cinefest on December 12, 2025.

The award-winning film, directed by Kim Jiyeon, a senior in the Department of Filmmaking, has garnered wide acclaim. It has been officially invited to nine film festivals and has received four international awards to date.

In 2025, Mom (2025) earned multiple honors, including Honorable Mention at the Hollywood Shortfest, Best Student Film at the Cannes Arts Film Fest, and Honorable Mention in the Women’s Short category at Indie X Film Fest. The film was also selected for screening at Venezia Shorts Italy, the Tokyo International Cinema Awards, the London International Filmmakers Festival, and the New York International Women Festival, among others.

Mom (2025) delicately captures the emotional layers of protagonist Heekyeong, a middle-aged woman who revisits deep-seated emotions during a brief phone call from her mother. The film reflects on a fleeting moment of warmth and comfort conveyed through simple words.

Currently majoring in Directing at K-Arts, Kim explores themes of subtle human emotions and psychological depth within relationships. Mom (2025) marks her first short film centered on a psychological and emotional narrative.
