Filmmaker Baek So-hye Officially Invited to the 48th Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival

Mogwa (Quince) (2025), directed by Baek So-hye, a 33-year-old fourth-year BA student in the Department of Filmmaking, has been officially invited to the International Competition of the 48th Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, one of the three most prestigious short film festivals in the world.

Along with the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen (Germany) and the Tampere Film Festival (Finland), the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival (France) is regarded as one of the top three international short film festivals. Mogwa (Quince) (2025) tells a gentle story of middle-aged lovers whose lives remain unsettled as they pursue their dreams, encouraging them to accept themselves as they are. The film was produced through a workshop in the Department of Filmmaking.

Founded in 1979, the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival hosts the world’s largest short film market. Since 2010, nine student films from the School of Film, TV & Multimedia at K-Arts have been invited to the festival. In 2012, alumna Yoon Ga-eun won the grand prize in the International Competition with her film Visitor (2011).

Mogwa (Quince) (2025) is Baek’s first short film and has been recognized in Korea. It was invited to the Jeju Women’s Film Festival, where it received the Yomangjin Audience Award, and to the Daegu Independent Short Film Festival, where it earned the Jury’s Special Mention. The film was also selected for the Surprise Screening section of the Seoul Independent Film Festival and was included in Indie Ground’s “2025 Independent Film Festival Film Library.”

Reflecting on the invitation, Baek So-hye said, “It feels like a dream to be invited to Clermont-Ferrand. I aspire to become a filmmaker who tells heart-warming stories with a touch of humor. I hope my films will always stay beside those who are alone.”

The 48th Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival was held in Clermont-Ferrand, France, from January 30 to February 7, with the world’s largest short film market running from February 2 to February 5.
