K-Arts
to Present the 18th KNUA Bach Week
The School of
Music at K-Arts will host the 18th KNUA Bach Week from April 20 to
23 at Lee Kang Sook Hall on the Seocho
campus.
This year’s Bach
Week features a diverse lineup of lectures, recitals, chamber concerts, and a cantata
performance, all celebrating the musical legacy of Johann Sebastian Bach. Performances
will begin at 7:30 p.m. on April 20 and 23, and at 7 p.m. on April 21 and 22.
The festival opens
on April 20 with a lecture by Professor Oh Jakyung, titled “Bach meets
Buxtehude,” exploring Bach’s musical journey alongside that of Dietrich Buxtehude.
On April 21, student performers will present an regular organ concert
showcasing their interpretations of J.S. Bach’s Great Eighteen Chorale
Preludes.
A Baroque chamber music concert will follow on the 22nd, leading to a grand finale on April 23 with a performance of Bach’s cantata by the KNUA Chamber Choir and Baroque Orchestra under the direction of Kim Hongsoo. The concert will feature soloists Hong Haeran and Sung Miree (soprano), Jung Minho (countertenor), Ryu Seunggak (tenor), and Yang Jongsu (bass).
Bringing together both student and professional performers, this year’s event aims to showcase diverse interpretations of Bach’s works and the faculty’s scholarly insights into his music.
