Jeong
Haeji’s Dinner (2026) Invited to the Competition Section at Annecy
Festival 2026
Animator Jeong
Haeji, an alumna of the Department of Animation at the School of Film, TV &
Multimedia, has received an official invitation to the Midnight Specials
Competition at the Annecy Festival 2026 for her film Dinner (2026). Widely
regarded as one of the world’s four major animation festivals, Annecy first
recognized Jeong’s work with Sura (2020), which was awarded the Jury Special
Prize.
Dinner presents a
symbolic narrative of love and separation through a three-course meal, evoking
the process of releasing a desire – an experience marked by both ecstasy and
pain. Jeong developed the project to express complex emotions and lingering
listlessness following a breakup. The film has been internationally recognized
for its inventive metaphor and refined visual language.
This achievement
also reflects the success of the creative talent development initiative jointly
pursued by the K-Arts School of Film, TV & Multimedia and the Korea
Creative Content Agency (KOCCA), which emphasizes practice-based education.
Celebrating its 31st anniversary, the School of Film, TV & Multimedia has
been invited to Annecy a total of nine times since 2010, underscoring the
global competitiveness of Korean animation.
The Annecy Festival 2026 will take place from June 21 to June 27 in Annecy, France.
