In celebration of the 30th anniversary of its establishment, the Department of Dance Theory in the School of Dance at K-Arts (President Pyeong Jangwan) will host an international academic conference series titled New Movements in Dance Studies. The series will take place over three sessions: May 30 at 8:00 a.m., June 1 at 8:00 p.m., and June 18 at 5:00 p.m.

Held online via Zoom, the series will bring together scholars from around the world to share current research trends and critical issues, while exploring the future of key disciplines within dance studies, including science and education, anthropology and history, and aesthetics and critique.

The second session, scheduled for June 1 (8:00 - 9:30 p.m.), will feature a presentation by Professor Shzr Ee Tan (Royal Holloway, University of London) on the theme “Steps Across Time: Reconfiguring/Recovering Asia Dance, Age-less Movements, and Social Space.”

The third session, to be held on June 18 (5:00 - 7:00 p.m.), is titled “Reflections and Prospects for Dance Studies in the Post-Humanistic Era.” Panelists will include Professor Sarah Whatley (Coventry University), Professor Nanako Nakajima (Waseda University), Professor Melina Scialom (Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts), and Professor Lee Jiseon (Sungkyunkwan University).
