1st at the Prague Spring Int'l Music Competition (Flute)

You Chaeyeon, an instrumental music major student of School of Music won the first prize for flute at the Prague Spring International Music competition held in Prague, Czech Republic from May 8 to 15, 2019. 

 

You competed with 46 people from 14 countries selected in the first round of DVD screeningShe won in the final round as a result of competing with Yuan Yu (China) and Anna Talackova (Czech Republic) who tied for second place and Niamh Mckenna (Germany), the third prize winner. Prague Spring International Music Competition, which celebrates the 71st anniversary this year, is a prestigious competition that has produced world-class musicians such as David Oistrakh, Mstislav Rostropovich and James Galway. Previously, clarinetist Sang Yoon Kim, flutists Kim Yoo-bin and Sunghyun Cho from Korea won in this competition, and they are now pursuing their musical careers on the world stage. You’s accomplishment is especially meaningful in a way that it is the very first award in a major international competition won by homegrown wind player in Korea. 

 

You Chaeyeon entered the Korea National University of Arts in 2018 after she had graduated from the Korea National Institute for the Gifted in Arts. She now studied under the flute professor Yelin Lee.
