KNIGA Symphony Orchestra Presents Its 22nd Regular Concert

The Korea National Institute for the Gifted in Arts (KNIGA), directed by President Hur Younghan and affiliated with K-Arts, successfully held the 22nd KNIGA Symphony Orchestra Regular Concert at Lee Kang-sook Hall on the Seocho Campus on July 25. This year’s concert featured works by Ludwig van Beethoven, whose music is celebrated for embodying not only artistic beauty but also the philosophy and spirit of its era.The Korea National Institute for the Gifted in Arts (KNIGA), directed by President Hur Younghan and affiliated with K-Arts, successfully held the 22nd KNIGA Symphony Orchestra Regular Concert at Lee Kang-sook Hall on the Seocho Campus on July 25. This year’s concert featured works by Ludwig van Beethoven, whose music is celebrated for embodying not only artistic beauty but also the philosophy and spirit of its era.

The program opened with the Overture to The Creatures of Prometheus, Op. 43, a ballet overture first performed in 1801 and known for its energetic rhythms and vivid momentum. This was followed by Piano Concerto No. 2 in B-flat major, Op. 19, performed by Oh Songji, a second-year piano major at Seoul Arts High School. Having trained at KNIGA since the fifth grade, Oh received warm applause for her spirited interpretation of Beethoven’s youthful energy and expressive color.

In the second half of the concert, the orchestra presented Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 36, a work that marked a significant expansion of Beethoven’s musical language beyond Classical conventions. Under the sensitive direction of Maestro Chung Chi-yong, professor emeritus at K-Arts, the KNIGA students delivered an accomplished ensemble performance grounded in strong technique and artistic dedication.
