Hahm Heeyoon’s Animated Short Film Epicenter Selected for Curatorial Presentation at Incheon International Airport

Epicenter, an animated short film by animator Hahm Heeyoon, an alumna of the Department of Animation in the School of Film, TV & Multimedia, has been selected for the Public Art Exhibition Project at Incheon International Airport. As a result, the work will be introduced to travelers passing through the airport.

Epicenter explores the boundaries between painting, animation, and film, a theme that also runs throughout Hahm’s artistic practice. The Seoul Independent Film Festival describes the work as an inquiry into the boundaries between mediums, developed from reflection on the relationship between moving images and still images.

The film examines the history of painting in relation to optics. It considers how, after the 15th century, when optical devices began to serve as auxiliary tools for painters, painting was evaluated according to how closely its images resembled reality. Following the invention of the camera, however, artistic interest shifted toward the fluid perspectives of human vision. Hahm independently handled the entire production process, including scriptwriting, directing, filming, and editing, while Lithium was responsible for production and Shin Seungmin for music. The cast includes Hahm Youngjun and Sym Seounsik.

Now in its fifth year, the Public Art Exhibition Project is co-organized by Incheon International Airport Corporation and the Korea Arts Management Service (KAMS). This year’s project runs from July 14 to November 14 and features 13 works by seven film directors and three sculptors. Hahm’s Epicenter is displayed alongside Park Jaebeom’s To Be Alive on LED pillar screens on the third floor and Concourse area of Terminal 1.
