Conductor Chin Sol Appointed Artistic Director of Italy’s Palermo Classica

Conductor Chin Sol, an alumna of the School of Music, has been appointed Permanent Artistic Director of Palermo Classica, Sicily’s flagship international summer music festival.

Her three-year tenure will run from 2026 through 2028. The festival committee cited her exceptional ability to bridge a profound mastery of large-scale symphonic repertoire with a contemporary vision for multidisciplinary arts projects as the key catalyst for her appointment.

Beginning in her inaugural season, Chin will conduct a series of performances across Sicily’s cultural centers, including Palermo, Taormina, Selinunte, and Agrigento. Her debut program, Beyond the Stars, will premiere at the Steri Concert Hall in Palermo.

Chin earned her Bachelor of Arts from K-Arts before completing her Master of Arts in Conducting at the Mannheim University of Music and Performing Arts in Germany. She has expanded her artistic breadth across Europe, leading prominent ensembles such as the Baden-Baden Philharmonic, the Southwest German Philharmonic Orchestra of Constance, and the Heilbronn Chamber Orchestra. Domestically, she has guest conducted the KBS Symphony Orchestra and the Korean National Symphony Orchestra. Moreover, Chin has served as the artistic director of the Artisee Orchestra and Permanent Conductor of the Daegu International Symphony Orchestra, alongside her teaching at K-Arts. She has also been a core driver of the Mahler Project since 2016. Demonstrating her versatile vision, she is the CEO and Artistic Director of FLASIC, a pioneering production platform integrating orchestral music with video games and subculture arts.

Founded in 2010, Palermo Classica is an international festival that has staged over 450 performances and 200 concert tours, attracting more than 60 renowned artists worldwide each year. Chin’s upcoming musical journey throughout Sicily is anticipated to strike a deep chord with both local and global audiences.
