DMZ Peace Train Music Festival

 

 

Professor Lee Dong-yeon of School of Korean Traditional Arts took charge of co-chairing organization of the DMZ Peace Train Music Festival. 

 

The DMZ Peace Train Music Festival Seoul 2019 was held at Chang-dong platform 61 and Goseogjeong, Gangwon-do on June 5th and 6th, 2019. Organized by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and hosted by the K-Arts Creative of the Korea National University of Arts, this event aims to explore the future of future of music, peace, harmony and practice on the theme of DMZ as the mobile cultural platform. 

 

Overall, the festival is composed of conferences, showcases, and citizen participation programs, and the international conference was held on June 5. The keynote talks included Mayor Park Won-soon, Minister of Unification Kim Yeon-chul, and Stephan Budd, the founder of Africa Express, and they discussed on the theme of “DMZ and the Effects of Cultural Politics” by looking at it through de-centralization of politics and re-centralization of cultures. The talk first covered about the interaction of culture, art, and politics and shared the cultural and political values that DMZ had. The Cuban music showcase was held on June 6th. The Cuban musical artists Pancho Amat, Marta Campos, and Guámpara Music performed in the event, which became the place to share the value of peace and connect with each other through music. 

 

During the festival, there was an art installation program in which citizens and artists participated together to complete a sculpture for peace in Changdong. The program was open to anyone who shared the vision of “music to peace, peace to future” with the online reservation made through Naver.
