Professor Shin Hye-won of the School of Visual Arts Directs
the Korean Pavilion at the International Architecture Exhibition in Venice
Biennale 2020
Shin Hye-won, adjunct professor of the School of Visual Arts, was appointed a curator of the Korean pavilion at the 17th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice Biennale 2020.
The Art Council Korea advertised this position to the public and accepted applications from June 17th to July 8th, and they selected the final two candidates after their first screening in early July. The final appointee was determined after the final interview. Professor Shin came up with the theme of “The Future School.” She is going to organize the Korean pavilion into a future school where an exhibition, practice, discussion, and experiment for future education can be found.
At “The Future School,” there will be lectures and
workshops which are about specific cases of architectures that are in contact
with three main issues of the contemporary world, “innovation, climate change,
diaspora.” The curriculum of lectures and workshops will be planned to
accommodate students, experts, and citizens visiting the Korean pavilion.
Besides, the Board of Venice Biennale appointed Architect Hashim Sarkis a
Director of the Architecture Sector of the 17th International Architecture
Exhibition. The exhibition is titled “How Will We Live Together?” and will be
held from May 23rd, 2020 to November 29th, 2020 in the areas around Giardini
and Arsenal in Venice, Italy.
