The International Ethnic Dance Institute Celebrates Its 20th Anniversary

Celebrating the 20th anniversary, the International Ethnic Dance Institute under the Korea National University of Arts had a performance on September 6th through 9th.

Beginning from introducing Nogaku in 1999, the International Ethnic Dance Institute has conducted academic researches on different ethnic dances from around the world such as dances from India, China, Mongolia, Philippines, Cambodia, and Vietnam, and introduced them to the domestic audience. Furthermore, from 2006 to 2009, the institute ascertained historical details on a Korean traditional dance, which was performed during the Jinjakrye ceremony in the Joseon dynasty, and put the ceremony on stage at Yeongyeongdang in Changdeokgung Palace in Seoul.

This year, in commemoration of the 20th anniversary, the institute replayed the performance “The Jinjakrye Ceremony at Yeongyeongdang of the King Sunjo of Joseon in the Year of Muja.” In addition, numbers of ethnic dances from Asia that it had already introduced to the domestic audience as well as other repertoires from nine different countries around the world – including Hawaii (the United States), Spain, India, China, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, etc. – were also performed in the celebration.

The first stage of this year's event started at Lee Kang Sook Hall Seocho-dong campus on September 6th. The rest took place at Yeongyeongdan in Changdeokgung Palace on the 7th, the seminar room on the 2nd floor of Seocho-dong campus on the 8th, and Art Theater on Seokgwan-dong Campus on the 9th.
