Artists of the Korea National University of Arts Bring Glory to the Winner of Oscars Parasite (2019)

As Bong Joon-Ho’s Parasite (2019) is nominated for six Oscars including International Feature Film, Directing, Original Screenplay, Film Synopsis, Production Design, and Film Editing in last February and wins four awards, the film crew staff is also attracting great public attention.

Several alumni of the School of Drama, Lee Sun-Kyun (acting major), Jang Hye-Jin (acting major), and Park So-Dam (acting major), starred in Parasite and led the film to success in Cannes Film Festival and Oscars. Their contributions were recognized as the film was also honored at Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards with the best ensemble award.

Furthermore, production designer Lee Ha-Jun (stage design major) was nominated for Production Design for the first time for a Korean film. Lee won a Contemporary trophy at the 24th annual Art Directors Guild (ADG) Awards.

Music director Kim Byung-In, an alumnus of the School of Film, TV & Multimedia (filmmaking major) won at the 67th Golden Reel Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing in Foreign Language Feature. Together with Oscars, Golden Reel Awards is the worldly-recognized prize for best work in sound across films bestowed by MPSE, American honorary society of motion picture sound editors.
