Sura
and Nausea, Two Animations of the School of Film, TV & Multimedia,
are Invited to International Film Festivals
The two animated works created by the students of the School of
Film, TV & Multimedia were officially invited to the Annecy International
Animated Film Festival (AIAFF) and Animafest Zagreb, the world-class international
animated film festivals.
Director Jeong
Hae-Ji’s graduation work, Sura (2020), was invited to competitions for the
student film both at the 44th AIAFF and the 30th
Animafest Zagreb. Besides, director Han Subien had the honor of being invited
to the AIAFF for the second time with her new animation Nausea (2020) since
his first time in 2018. The AIAFF and Animafest Zagreb are those of the four
major animation film festivals around the world together with the Ottawa
International Animation Film Festival and Hiroshima International Animation
Festival.
In Sura, director Jeong touches on the issue of teenage pregnancy based on her personal experience of watching her closest friend’s unexpected pregnancy. Winning in several contests such as “Comfort Women Content Contest” by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and “Shinyoung Culture Challenge Character” by Shinyoung Securities Company, Jeong Hae-Ji had already gained recognition as a young talented animator.
Director Han Subien’s Nausea shows a “Kewpie” doll undergoing a furious digestion process. The “Kewpie,” an invader of the body, fiercely struggles against the digestive system, and the film elaborates the scene with on and off beats of the background music. Earlier, director Han was invited to the AIAFF in 2018 for Perspectives with his graduation film, Just Walking. He also demonstrated his talents via winning the 2nd placement in Nos Yeux Grands Ouverts, the festival for art and experimental films, and Rookie Awards at the Seoul International Cartoon & Animation Festival: SICAF in 2019.
This year, Animafest
Zagreb will be held for six days from July 8th to 13th in
Zagreb, Croatia whereas the AIAFF will be open from June 15th to 30th.
