Sung Mikyung of the School of Music Hosts Double Bass Recital

Double bassist Sung Mikyung, an alumna of the School of Music, hosts a recital at the IBK Chamber Hall in Seoul Arts Center on May 30th. Sung Mikyung is returning to the country after having performed as principal bass with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra.

For this concert, she arranged cello pieces for the double bass. Pianist Ilya Rashkovsky from Russia will play with her, and the playlist includes Schubert’s Schwanengesang, D 957, Mendelssohn's Cello Sonata No.2 in D Major, and Rachmaninoff’s Sonata in G minor for Cello and Piano, Op.19.

Sung made her debut as a winner of Kumho Prodigy Concert in 2007, and after entering the Korea National University of Arts as a musical prodigy, she demonstrated her capacity as a double bassist by winning the Special Jury Prize at the International J. M. Sperger Competition for Double Bass in Germany. In Shanghai, she not only performed as a member of orchestra but taught on the double bass faculty of the Shanghai Orchestra Academy.
