Ballerina Wona Park Is Promoted to Principal Dancer of San Francisco Ballet


 

Ballerina Wona Park, who studied at the Korea National Institute for the Gifted in Arts (KNIGA), K-Arts’ umbrella institution for art prodigy, was promoted to principal dancer of San Francisco Ballet (SF Ballet). She first joined the Company as a member of the corps de ballet in 2017 and was promoted to soloist in July 2018. It took less than only two years for her to be promoted again.

 

Wona Park received training at KNIGA. When she was a trainee at KNIGA in 2015, a first-year high school student, she was admitted to San Francisco Ballet School with a scholarship. Afterward, Park became the first Korean to be a member of the corps de ballet at SF Ballet. She received many awards including the 1st classified ex-equo at the International Ballet Competition Sicilia in 2012, 1st placement at the Seoul International Dance Competition 2014, and the grand prize at the Korea Pro Ballet Association.
