Writer Kang Hwa-gil’s White Horse Receives Attention with Its Feminine Narrative

An alumna of the School of Drama Kang Hwa-gil’s second collection of short stories The White Horse is drawing public attention upon publication. The White Horse is composed of seven short stories Kang has worked on approximately for four years.

The anthology also includes “Eumbok” (literally meaning, to drink good fortune), a literary piece that made her the winner of the 11th Literature Prize for Young Writers. Since her debut in 2012 through Spring Literary Contest by the Kyunghyang Shinmun, Kang has been writing about the absurdity of social structure that adroitly exploits women. Taking the form of thriller, The White Horse examines a social structure that has imposed physical threats, rumors and gossips, prejudices, and unfair customs on women. Kang Hwa-gil’s thrillers are one of the most noticed feminine narratives in the latest Korean literary world. Also, The White Horse was nominated for a candidate for the final of the upcoming Dong-in Literary Award.
