Professor Ahn Kyu-chul Participates in Exhibition Arts and Words 2020

Sculptor and professor Ahn Kyu-chul (School of Visual Arts) and sixteen other members of the Reality and Utterance Artworks co-hosted an exhibition Arts and Words 2020 from July 1^st to 31^st at Hakgojae Gallery. 

Professor Ahn, professor Lee Tae-ho (Kyung Hee University), and independent curator Kim Ji-yeon organized this event. The exhibition presents 106 pieces of artwork from the 1980s and 2000s selected by the participating artists. Founded in 1980, the Reality and Utterance Artworks led a revolution of Minjung Art in 1980s, striving to communicate with the reality in the means of art resisting to the establishment. The members went separate ways after they officially announced the dissolution of the group in 1990. 

As the reason for organizing this exhibition, professor Ahn explained, “I find speaking through art has become a common thing nowadays. In this respect, it will be worthy of questioning if the art is saying what it must say. Now I dare say it is time for art to reserve words to speak what it really needs to say.”
