K-ARTS x POSTECH Art and Technology Integration Project

The K-ARTS and the POSTECH decided to launch an integration project aiming for the development of both arts and technology. On August 20th at the K-ARTS Seokgwan-dong campus, the president of K-ARTS Kim Bongryol and the president of POSTECH Kim Moo-hwan gathered to discuss the current issues both schools are focusing. They mainly discussed creating VR films using realistic media, running the Campus Asia program – an international co-work program with schools from China and Japan – and other enterprises that require researches with the integration of arts and science such as artificial intelligence.

Upon discussion, the two presidents approved the K-ARTS and the POSTECH to cooperate for creating a new model for arts through the exchange of education and research in the future. At the meeting, both presidents shared the opinion on how the genuine partnership between the two schools had been hard to achieve. They evaluated, “We each have been offering elective courses like ‘Introduction to Science’ and ‘Artistic Promenade’ to our students for over ten years since 2008 as a part of practicing our partnership.

Still, we indeed had difficulties in furthering our academic exchange to the next level due to our different focuses." They added, “The outbreak of COVID-19 became a turning point that gave us awareness of the need for progressing a more pragmatic partnership using arts and technology.” The two parties agreed to conduct a research project that explores the potentials of a combination between artificial intelligence and arts through various programs such as workshops and forums where both professors and students can participate.
