The Korean Traditional Music Students Win Big at the National Competitions

The Korean Traditional Music Students Win Big at the On-nara Gugak Competition & the National Ureuk Gayageum Competition


The graduate and current students of the School of Korean Traditional Arts swept the awards at the 40th On-nara Gugak Competition and the 29th National Ureuk Gayageum Competition. Celebrating the 40th anniversary, the On-Nara Gugak Competition that took place in this July was a heated competition with 299 participants entered. Numbers of our students triumphed over their competitors.

 

First, the Prize of the Minister of Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, which equates to the golden prize, went to Ji Myeong-in (pansori), Mun Bin (haegeum), Kim Si-heon (piri), and Cho Eun-sol (gayageum). The KEB Hana Bank CEO’s Prize went to Lee Eu-cheol (daegeum), Jeong Ji-yoon (haegeum), Ha Byeong-hoon (gayageum), and Yoon Gyeom (ajaeng).

 

Besides, our students also made impressive results at the 29th National Ureuk Gayageum Competition co-hosted by Goryeong-gun and the Goryeong Cultural Center. In this contest, a total of 201 teams composed of 226 participants competed from August 7th through August 9th. Kim Min-ji (alumna of the graduate program) became the winner of the President’s Prize in ureuk. Other ureuk performers from our school also won the prizes in the meantime. Kim Tae-hwi (current undergraduate student) obtained the Prize of the Minister of Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and Lim Jeong-wan took the Gyeongsangbuk-do Governor’s Prize for the college student division. Lastly, Choi Min-Kyung won the Goryeong Governor’s Prize also for the same division.
