Director Lim Sun-ae Wins Park Nam-ok Award at the 22nd Seoul International Women’s Film Festival

Director Lim Sun-ae won the Park Nam-ok Award at the 22nd Seoul International Women’s Film Festival (SIWFF) with Sixty-nine Years Old/ An Old Lady (2020).

Park Nam-ok Award commemorates the first female Korean film director Park Nam-ok. Lim’s Sixty-nine Years Old tells a story of a protagonist, sixty-year-old Hyo-Jung, who fights for justice against social prejudices after being raped by a male nursing assistant in his twenties. The selection committee explained, “Rather than excessively focusing on investigating the causal relation of a specific event, this film instead conveys the time of an elderly woman who strives to preserve her dignity. That’s why we selected this film. Director Lim’s assurance that came after a long period of consideration and patience reflected in this work exactly reminded us of director Park Nam-ok’s assurance.”

Lim’s Sixty-nine Years Old is now collecting attention from the global audience while receiving invitations to many international film festivals from China, Israel, and Turkey.
