Conquer the Dong-A Music Competition
The current and graduate students of the School of Korean Traditional Arts won big at the 36th Dong-A Korean Traditional Music Competition. Organized by Dong-A Ilbo and sponsored by Jeong-Hyo Gugak Cultural Foundation and Dong-A Dream Tree Foundation, Dong-A Music Competition was established in 1961 and gained a reputation as one of the most prestigious classical music concours in Korea.
K-Arts students Hwang Hye-yeong for geomungo, Kang Seo-yeon for haegeum, Ko Su-yeon for daegeum, and Ha Byeong-hoon for gayageum seized the golden prizes. Also, the silver prizes went to Lee Chan-woo for piri and Park Sang-hoon for pansori. The bronze prize winners are Yoon Gyeom (ajaeng), So Jang (pansori), Kim Su-min (geomungo), and Jeon Woo-rim (Korean traditional music composition & gayageum). The winners said, “We are happy that juniors and seniors from our department all received these worthy prizes together. We will continue to train constantly and grow up as great gugak musicians.” On the other hand, Hwang Hye-yeong and Ha Byeong-hoon received instruments for the accolade from the Minsok Korean Folk Music Company.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will also recommend
Ha Byeong-hoon to Military Manpower Administration for a national service
position in the field of arts.
