Alumna Visual Artist Woo Hannah’s Solo Exhibition "Ma Moitié"

Alumna Visual Artist Woo Hannah’s Solo Exhibition <Ma Moitié>

Woo Hannah, graduate of the School of Visual Arts, hosted a solo exhibition Ma Moitié at the Songeun Art Cube. Woo Hannah created spaces with narratives through various installation works. This exhibition regards designer Woo Hannah as a singular identity and puts her on the front. In this way, it explores the values and beauty of arts and questions where it should head in today’s context when a brand-name product replaces a masterpiece.

The exhibition title “Ma Moitié” is a French word referring to the lost other half. It alludes to the Greek mythology of Aristophanes, according to which at the beginning of the world, men and women were born in one human body. They were, however, separated into two parts for God’s punishment, and ever since, they longed for their other halves. Inspired by the motif of this primal longing, Woo creates body organs. The body organs represent things that can never be seen or touched by their owners. Woo expresses such an intrinsic sense of loss and longing caused by one’s alienation from his or her own body in the artist’s original style using various colors and textures of fabrics. All materials in her works for this exhibition are recycling of the used cloth.
