Dean
Lim June-Hee of the School of Korean Traditional Arts Performs <Dokdo
Fantasie>
Dean Lim June-Hee of the School of Korean Traditional Arts presents <Dokdo Fantasie for Sporano, Daegeum, Haegeum, and String Trio> to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Korea-Russia diplomatic relations this year. The co-hosts of this event are the non-profit corporation La Mer et L'Île (CEO and founder Lee Hamjoon) and the committees from Korea (Korean Chairman Lee Kyu-Hyung, former South Korean ambassador to Russia) and Russia (Russian Chairman Nikolay Kropachev, rector of Saint Petersburg State University) in Korea-Russia Dialogue.
Dean Lim composed “Dokdo
Fantasie” for this special musical piece to commemorate the 100th anniversary
of the March 1st Independence Movement and the foundation of the Korean
Provisional Government. The work adopts poet Choi Jeongrye’s “Whole Self” into
three movements. The concert program also includes other Russian classical
music such as Variation on a Theme by Tchaikovsky, Op. 353a by A. Arensky, Do
Not Sing for Me, Fair Maiden, Op.4 by S. Rachmaninoff, and Souvenir de
Florence, Op. 70 by P. I. Tchaikovsky in addition to Jubilate for Soprano and
String Ensemble by Korean composer Lee Young-jo. While the live performance
took place at the Lotte Concert Hall at 8 p.m. on November 12th, Arte TV live-streamed
the concert.
