Playwright & Director Park Hae-sung Wins the Kim Sang-Yul Memorial Award

Alumnus Playwright & Director Park Hae-sung Becomes the Winner of the 22nd Kim Sang-Yul Memorial Award

Park Hae-sung, a graduate of School of Drama, won the 22nd Kim Sang-Yul Memorial Award.

The juries reviewed, “Park has his own tricky and achromatic trait. And he presents uncompromising stages based on it, which, in turn, tells us how he sticks to theatrical fundamentalism. A quality we rarely see from theater artists of today.” Park Hae-sung has already received compliments on numbers of his other plays such as Coriolanus, Sputnik, Fate Determined (based on a theatrical work by Juan Radrigan). The International Association of Theatre Critics – Korea conferred a title of one of the Three Best Plays of the Year on Park’s Winds of Fukushima in 2015. Park also won in the 5th Yoon Yung-Sun Festival 2018.

Besides, the Kim Sang-Yul Memorial Award commemorates the late playwright and director Kim Sang-Yul (1941-1998). To pay tribute to his spirit, the memorial foundation grants awards to theater artists who both write and produce plays just as Kim Sang-Yul did.
