Nam Hwayeon Wins the Today’s Young Artist Award
Sculptor
Nam Hwayeon (professor of the School of Visual Arts) became this year’s winner
of Today’s Young Artist Award in the visual arts category awarded by the
Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Today’s
Young Artist Award is a prize for promising artists in their twenties and
thirties. The evaluation for candidates bases on the artists’ contributions to
the development in their fields and their performances in domestic and
international art contests. Sculptor Nam has emerged as an artist a global
recognition by actively engaging in various experimental art activities across
the borders since 2006. She also gained recognition as an educator who
currently nurtures the future prospective visual artists in the university. The
award ceremony took place at the National Museum of Korea on 19 October 2020 at
2 p.m. As an awardee, she received the Minister’s commendation and a prize of 5
million KRW.
Professor
Nam said, “I am happy to win the award. I will continue to be a devoted artist.
I hope I can motivate my students with my practices in the field.”
