The
Arts and Gender Research Center Hosts an Academic Symposium
The Arts and Gender
Research Center (Director Nam Soo-young) in the Korea National University of
Arts hosted a fall academic symposium on the topic of “Body, Media, Gender:
Theoretical Approach on Contemporary Body Studies through Lens of Arts” on 15
December 2020. The event took place on Zoom. This symposium pursues building a
foundation for contemporary body-based research in arts by theoretically
analyzing body experiences in changing digital media environments in the new
media era.
Director Nam emphasized, “A
concept of the body as an artistic expression or as a discourse for feminist
art or media needs more diverse opinions from fresh perspectives. Particularly,
we need more discussions for re-evaluating women as the subject of artistic
activities.” She added, “I will continue to organize symposiums on gender
issues in association with new media technology to draw a light on
techno-feminism in the age of new media.”
The Arts and Gender
Research Center supports operating gender-equality courses in K-Arts. In
cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, the center has
developed various educational content on sexual harassment prevention or sexual
violence prevention.
