Alumning Singer Wang Yun-jeong Grabs the Grand Prize in the KBS Seoul Gugak Grand Contest


 

Wang Yun-jeong, who studied vocal music in School of Korean Traditional Arts, earned the Grand Prize in Vocals at the KBS Gugak (Korean Traditional Music) Grand Contest. The finalists who had already won the Golden Prizes keenly competed for the Grand Prize on November 19th of the previous year in five categories – Vocals, Strings, Winds, Dance, and Composition. Amid them, Wang sang the scene of Sim Bongsa (Sim the Blind) weeping loudly at Mrs. Kwak’s tomb and basked in glory of the Grand Prize win. 

 

At the award acceptance speech, Wang said, “I am thirty, as old as the KBS Seoul Gugak Grand Contest. I am more than happy to receive this award. I will be a pansori singer who keeps on trying to develop self.”
