Alumna Writer Dong Yi-hyang Wins in the 14th Cha Bum-suk Drama Award


 

Writer Dong Yi-hyang from the School of Drama won in the 14th Cha Bum-suk Drama Award in Multi-Act Play with her <A Liver and a River: While the Mermaid Evolve.> The Cha Bum-suk Drama Award commemorates playwright Cha Bum-suk (1924 - 2006). The Chosun Ilbo and Cha Bum-suk Drama Foundation are co-organizers of the event. The first winner came out in 2007. For a reason to select Dong’s work, the jury committee said, “In her play, she constructed the original world with extraordinary ideas, senses, and perception.” 

 

At the award ceremony in the Chosun Ilbo Gallery, Dong Yi-hyang said, “Thank you for having a high opinion of my work. I’ve realized anew that writing a play is a process of meeting the world. More than ever, playwriting is becoming my only language now.”
